Meet Isabella, Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority’s newest MedServe Fellow

The Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority (CIHA) proudly welcomes Isabella, the newest MedServe Fellow, to its healthcare team. Since 2016, CIHA has partnered with MedServe, a North Carolina-based program that supports aspiring primary care physicians by providing hands-on experience in underserved communities. This collaboration is part of CIHA’s ongoing commitment to fostering future healthcare professionals while enhancing access to high-quality care.

In her role at CIHA, Isabella serves as a scribe and helps train volunteer scribes who support medical staff across the hospital. She also plays a key role in performance improvement, focusing on primary care, and is currently working toward completing her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.

A graduate of  UNC Chapel Hill, Isabella holds a degree in Chemistry and Geology. She grew up as an Army brat, living in multiple locations across the country, but considers Fayetteville, NC home. Outside of work, she enjoys running, hiking, and jewelry making. She is also the oldest of six siblings, and her strong connection to family drives her passion for service and healthcare.

“MedServe Fellows play a vital role at CIHA, bringing fresh perspectives and a deep dedication to primary care in Indigenous communities,” said Dr. Richard Bunio, CIHA Medical Director. “We are thrilled to have Isabella join our team and look forward to seeing the impact she will make.”

MedServe collaborates with clinics across North Carolina, from the coast to the mountains, with the mission of developing life-long advocates for health equity. Fellows gain professional and clinical experience in medical scribing, quality improvement, nursing aide roles, and more.
