Due to a critical staff shortage, all same day appointments are intended for patients who are experiencing dental pain, swelling or uncontrolled dental bleeding.

Durable Medical Equipment (DME)

CIHA’s Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Department helps patients with breathing issues, ambulatory challenges, and a variety of other disabilities, often working in conjunction with patients’ general practitioners, Integrated Care Team, or the Respiratory Therapy Department. With the careful application of useful tools and devices, DME can make life a little easier. Those with breathing issues might be prescribed nebulizers, oxygen equipment, CPAPs, etc., while those with ambulatory challenges are often assisted with walkers, wheelchairs, or other assistive devices.

To receive any equipment for CPAPs, oxygen, and nebulizers, please call the Respiratory Therapy Department or the company that provided your equipment originally. To receive supplies, please call 828.497.9163 ext. 6389.

The Eye Clinic provides full-scope, hospital-based, primary eye care for enrolled members and beneficiaries. Visitors to our clinic can also browse the Optical Shop. It offers a full range of glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses, including Medicaid-covered options and a community eye care provider. (EBCI enrolled members over 59½ receive $200 a year toward new glasses.)

The Laboratory Department at CIHA provides crucial services utilized in the assessment of your health condition. Our lab professionals contribute to the multidisciplinary medical approaches used by your Integrated Care Team.

Services Include:

  • Blood collection with a variety of tests
  • ABO/Rh and cross-matching tests

  • Analysis of cultures provided to the laboratory for bacteria identification and antibiotic sensitivity

Though it is something that can often be taken for granted in our daily lives, nutrition is often at the source of a variety of health-related issues. The talented team in our Nutrition Department works within a multidisciplinary approach to offer Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to patients of CIHA. Upon first visiting the department, you will be given an inpatient nutrition assessment by a Registered Dietitian (RD). RDs also provide outpatient nutrition consultations as part of CIHA’s Integrated Care Teams. Lastly, those same RDs provide our Cherokee patients with critical education and diet prescriptions for a variety of health conditions. All of our dietitians are licensed by the state of North Carolina and maintain registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The CIHA Radiology Department is staffed with a talented group of radiologists, clinicians, and assistants, and is accredited by the American College of Radiology in Mammography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Computed Tomography (CT).

Respiratory Therapy provides care to Cherokee patients with breathing-related problems. Such care includes education on asthma, COPD, and sleep apnea, as well as exams for lung function and exercise stress tests. The licensed and highly trained staff of our department are eager to help you test for difficulties you may be having, or suggest tools, breathing exercises, or other forms of therapy to help with an existing breathing condition.
